With many of us having to adapt to ‘the new normal’ I thought it might be helpful to share some of our home working tips. As recruiters, we are used to being out and about, flitting from coffee shop to office reception and engaging constantly with people. An office of mostly extroverts we are energised by that human interaction and it’s all been taken away.
As a team we have been discussing what we can do daily to make us feel better in ourselves. One of the key parts, is simply checking in on each other. Taking the time to call around or organise a video call and see how each and everyone of our colleagues is feeling each day and if they are in a positive place.
On top of this we have got some other ideas. Firstly, make sure you engage with your daily exercise opportunity. I think for many, “one hour’s exercise” sounds scary. Whether that is because it is too much or too little. However, we find a quick walk around the block brings endorphins into the body, the natural light boosting your vitamin D and every single one of us feels happier when they return. If you do nothing more, try and get a walk in each day.
Try and find some social contact, and not just online! Walking with a friend or relative is helpful or walking round to see a relative from an appropriate safe distance makes the world feel a happier place.
Make sure you get up from your desk each day. I personally wear a ‘fitness watch’ but sadly lack being fit. It has however, been so noticeable how many ‘steps’ I’ve lost a day by not seeing candidates and clients and not walking to meetings. It is important to step away from the desk for a few minutes a day, stretch your muscles out, relax your eyes and don’t stare at the screen and refresh yourself with some water.
The final piece we have all found helpful is getting your workspace organised to boost productivity. Open the curtains and let in the light, the natural light is a great source of positivity for the body. Shut out the noise so you can concentrate and try and tidy up your workspace each day. For many the clutter around the desk can be a distraction and can make it harder to get the working day done.
Some of the team are making daily to do lists, ensuring they get their core tasks done but making sure their daily exercise is part of this list.
Stay safe, look after each other and be kind, we hope you found this article helpful.
